Kilinux Team is planning to continue with FOSS Localization

Kilinux Team is in the initial process of planning on how it will continue with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) localization after most of its members returned back from their studies and they are ready to continue with the project. The team is also planning to conduct training on how to carry out FOSS localization to the students from Department of Computer Science and Engeneering.

Kiswahili (sw-TZ) language pack for Mozilla Firefox is approved to be public by AMO (Addons.Mozilla.org). It is now available to a public for downloading and adding to arleady installed Mozilla Firefox 3.5.*. Kilinux Extended Glossary is available for download

Kilinux team succeeded to finish a new Extended Kiswahili Glossary and it is available for download through this link Extended sw-TZ Glossary . Currently the glossary is available in xls format and it can be opened using either excel(MS Office) or Calc(OpenOffice.org). We are still preparing its corresponding PO , PDF and Writer formats. Kilinux Glossary

The Kilinux team is about to release its En-SW Extended Glossary within few days, which contains more than 1500 terms translated to Kiswahili language. The release of the glossary was delayed because some terms were too difficult to translate and the team worked hard to come up with appropriate terms for Kiswahili users.

Localized Firefox 3.5 files sent to Mozilla Firefox

Kilinux team on April 27, 2009 sent full localized files of Firefox 3.5 to Mozilla firefox. The files will be reviewed before intergration with Firefox 3.5 official release. We are waiting feedback from Mozilla Firefox.

Creating Jambo Mozilla Firefox 3.1 (sw-TZ language pack)

The kilinux team completed 80% of translation work and now is collaborating with mozilla technical experts to create kiswahili language pack(sw-TZ.xpi) for Mozilla Firefox 3.1. Also, the team is arranging to meet with kiswahili experts from both Institute of Kiswahili Research (IKR) - University of Dar es salaam and Baraza la Kiswahili Tanzania (BAKITA) to discuss and translate difficult terms in order to complete 100% of translation work in few coming days.

Migration of Jambo Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3 to 3.1 (Trunk)

The Kilinux team is proud to announce that the migration of Jambo mozilla firefox 1.0.3 to 3.1 (trunk) has started. The team has collected all neccessary tools for migration process and already has a package with merge of Firefox 1.0 sw-TZ and Frefox 3.1 en-Us localization. The translation process is expected to be complete by early 2009.

Localization of Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1

The Kilinux team is in the process of localizing Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1. In the localization process, the team looks at two alternatives. Firstly, migration of the older version of Kiswahili Mozilla Firefox (Jambo Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3) to a new version (3.0.1) and Secondly, localizing Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 from scratch. The team looks at the easiest alternative.

New Kiswahili Spell Checker

The Kilinux Team is about to finish the development of a new Kiswahili spell checker that will replace the existing one used in Jambo OpenOffice.org 1.0.3. The spell checker was developed using MySpell spell checking tool. The team is finalizing the collection and verification of valid kiswahili stems to be used in the Kiswahili wordlist together with the creation of Kiswahili morphological rules that will be used to create more Kiswahili prefixes/suffixes for the affix file.

Jambo Mozilla Firefox Official Release

The kilinux Team is proud to announce the official release of Jambo mozilla Firefox on 30th September 2006. The official launching of the Jambo Mozilla Firefox will take place at the Nkurumah Hall at the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania).

The former president of the United Republic of Tanzania his excellency Ali Hassan Mwinyi will officially launch this first Kiswahili web browser. This is a second free Kiswahili software released by the kilinux team after launching Jambo OpenOffice in February 2005.
